Designer Rohit Bal displayed his collection “The Mulmul Masquerade” on the fourth day of the Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 in New Delhi. Actress Sonam Kapoor stopped the show in a white golden lehenga in mulmul which featured paisley prints. She looked quite the Mughal bride.
The collection had an Indo-western Fusion element to it and one saw a blend of Indian traditional and Elizabethan inspired styles. On display were saris and voluminous lehengas teamed with corsets.
Embroidered long dresses and gowns, high Elizabethan collars, floor sweeping embroidered jackets, angrakhas, achkans were the highpoints of the garments showcased.
Kashmiri embroidery also marked its presence. For the men one saw anarkali like attires and pleated lower wear that were teamed with tassels. Deeps red, royal blue, black, white and golden, in terms of color palette, made for a luxurious and opulent feel. Fabrics like velvet, voil and mulmul were used liberally.
